The International Journal of Research in Management & Technology has recently published a new research developed by Emirates Identity Authority under the title “Population Growth and Government Modernization Efforts – The Case of GCC Countries”.
The research touches upon the subject of the national identity in the Gulf Corporation Council (GCC) countries and the challenge residing in the need to find balance between traditions, standards and modern practices in light of the recent statistics on the population demographics.
The research indicates that the GCC countries attract vast numbers of qualified and nonqualified workforce from all over the world. The region is considered the third largest in the world after the European Union and North America because of the economic and job market requirements in the Gulf countries and high standards of living and high salaries in these countries in comparison to other countries.
The research also indicates that the vast flow of foreign workforce triggered by expansion and development projects of the infrastructure in the GCC countries has an enormous impactonpopulation demographics socially, culturally and economically.
The researchpresents one of the most significant projects executed by the GCC countries related to the development of advanced systems to manage identity and population registers to provide governments and policy makers with the necessary data allowing themto develop and regulate their national identity strategies and explore opportunities of promoting the labor market.
The research states that these initiatives have been backed by strong leadership and the governments of these countries to achieve a number of objectives, foremost among which are homeland security enhancement, and support of e-government projects. It highlighted the keenness of GCC countries on raising the level of services provided by both the public and private sectors for nationals and expatriates in the GCC countries.
The researcher believes that an advanced identitymanagement system provides reliable and accurate dataabout the population demographics, which is a fundamental short, medium and long-term planning requirement and central to improving decisionmaking.
