H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, has affirmed that all the projects that are being implemented by the Emirates Identity Authority fall within the framework of a clear and integrated strategic work system whose vision and objectives are derived from the main orientations of the UAE Vision 2021, which is aimed at enabling the UAE to consolidate its position as one of the most advanced, developed and prosperous countries of the world.
During his participation in the FutureGov Conference 2012 in the Indonesian capital Jakarta, Al Khouri said the population register and ID card project is one of the most outstanding strategic projects sponsored by the UAE with the aim of upgrading its services and consolidating its international position in the field of using modern technology and employing it to serve the interest of all the UAE population.
In the working paper titled “UAE ID Management Infrastructure”, which he presented in the conference, Al Khouri pointed out that the digital ID project would be beneficial to the UAE public and private sectors and would promote the transition towards automation of all government transactions through a connected technological environment and coherent electronic maturity with the aim of providing an integrated package of qualitative and distinguished government services that save time and effort and contribute to rendering the individualan efficient element interacting with a typically technological age.
The working paper focused on the infrastructure of the digital ID project and the effective role of this project in supporting decision-making through providing decision makers with accurate data and statistics that could be built on in the strategic planning process in all the sectors operating in the UAE. It also focused on the contribution of this strategic project to building and consolidating the concept of digital economy in the UAE.
Al Khouri took part in the main panel discussion of the activities of the first day of the conference, which concluded recently and saw the participation of an elite group of the world’s senior government officials and ICT experts and specialists.
Al Khouri also met on the sidelines of the conference H.E. Dr. Zainal Hasibuan Vice Chairman, Indonesia ICT Council, and H.E. Dr. Ashwin Sasongko, Director General ICT Application, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Indonesia, and discussed with them aspects of mutual co-operation and means of enhancing bilateral relations in future.
The FutureGov Conference 2012 discussed over 2 days a number of major themes related to the strategies of eGovernments, the best solutions suggested for combating the challenges faced by the public sector, and the effect of the digital ID systems on eGovernment programs.
The conference reviewed the role of statistics, the effect of analysis on enhancing the public sector’s performance and improving government performance, the ways of securing the data pertaining to online services, the mechanisms of properly managing these data and means that ensure protection of their confidentiality and privacy, in addition to information security and the challenges facing this field and the technologies used in this connection.
It is noteworthy that Indonesia, which is the world’s 3rd largest country and the largest Islamic country in terms of population, is in the process of implementing an ID project for registering its population in ID card for a total estimated cost of around $600 million.
