Sharjah Registration Center organizes open day for people with Down syndrome

The family of the Emirates Identity Authority-affiliated Sharjah Registration Center has organized an open day for people with Down syndrome as part of its keenness on participating in the humanitarian initiatives and social activities that throw the light on supporting the disabled and integrating them into the society.

The open day, which was organized in co-operation with the UAE Down Syndrome Association, coincided with a declaration by the United National General Assembly to observe the World Down Syndrome Day on March 21^st every year, with effect from 2012. The open day has the theme of “Building our Future.”

A number of people with Down syndrome who were accompanied by their parents visited Sharjah Registration Center to mark the open day. During their visit, the people with Down syndrome exhibited a number of their wall paintings. To interact with them, a team of the Emirates Identity Authority familiarized the visitors with the mechanism of registration in the population register and ID card and replied to their inquiries in this connection.

The Emirates Identity Authority clarified that its participation in such activities came from a humanitarian perspective aimed at spreading awareness among individuals of the society and familiarizing them with the nature of the Down syndrome as well as the potential energies existing in those who have the syndrome and their real mental and corporeal abilities to interact with the individuals of the society.

On the sidelines of the function, a number of employees of Sharjah Registration Center registered with the Emirates Down Syndrome Association by filling out a volunteering form to contribute to making a success of the association’s activities in the upcoming period.
