Emirates ID reiterates its support

On its part, the Emirates Identity Authority has reiterated its full support for the new e-passport project, which is based on the population register and ID card database, as part of its keenness on fulfilling the vision of the UAE prudent leadership and the strategy of the federal government for upgrading government work in line with the global specifications.

The Emirates Identity Authority has recently affirmed that in order to obtain an e-passport, citizens will have to register in the population register and ID card, based on the electronic linkage between the Ministry of the Interior and the Emirates Identity Authority. The issuance of the new e-passport is dependent on the citizens’ records and biometrics stored in the Emirates Identity Authority’s database.

It is noteworthy that the procedures of issuing an e-passport to a newly born citizen requires them to be registered in the population register and ID card after they have been issued original birth certificates from the competent authorities and added to the summary of civil status through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs. This is to be followed by a visit to an Emirates Identity Authority-affiliated registration center without a prior appointment to register the newly born citizen in the population register system and get an identity certificate before completing the procedures for getting an e-passport for the newly born citizen by visiting the service points of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs and presenting the identity certificate.

Upon visiting the registration center, the parents of a newly born citizen need to present their ID cards, the original birth certificate and the original summary of civil status. This transaction, however, needs no fees to be paid.
