WAM – In its 4th meeting held today (Sunday) under the chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Federal National Council (FNC) Affairs and Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) reviewed a report on the technical preparations for the electoral process as well as the budget and timeline of the elections and the formation of sub-committees all over the UAE.

During the meeting held in the Presidential Palace, the NEC discussed all the logistical details of the electoral process from the preparatory stage to the actual polling with the aim of ensuring that all the requirements for a successful electoral process are fulfilled and that well-trained and highly qualified personnel to supervise the process are available for easy and regular procedures.

Gargash stressed the importance of taking into consideration all the technical details for ensuring a smooth and exemplary electoral process that reflects the progress the UAE has achieved in various spheres.

Gargash pointed out that the NEC had made great strides in preparing for the elections from all administrative and technical areas including co-ordination with the relevant entities to make a success of the electoral process, noting that the NEC is tracking all the details to ensure that all the requirements are fulfilled in the best way before the polling date scheduled for September 24th 2004.

Stressing the importance of combining all efforts to implement the electoral process in such a manner that reflects the prudent leadership’s vision of further bolstering political participation and developing the FNC experience, Gargash pointed out that expanding participation in the electoral colleges based on the decree issued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may Allah protect him, would enrich the political experience in the country and allow as many nationals as possible to select their representatives in the FNC.

“Increasing the number of electoral colleges is expected to bolster political participation and reflect the spirit of the political program of the UAE. We expect that the electoral colleges will be rich in qualifications to reflect the evolution of the UAE society,” Gargash said.

Bearing in mind the political conditions prevailing in the Arab world, the NEC is quite aware that Sheikh Khalifa’s approach towards bolstering political participation was a wise move and signified that the UAE experience, which is rich in its living achievements would enhance the political program that he launched, Gargash said.

The UAE is about to witness a positive electoral experience in terms of both quality and quantity which must be managed efficiently and successfully, he added, noting that the NEC is capable of playing this role in the best way, thanks to its qualified national staff, he added.

The NEC’s members include H.E. Humaid Mohammad Al Qutami, Minister of Education; H.E. Abdul Rahman Mohammad Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development; H.E. Dr. Hadef Ju’an Al Daheri, Minister of Justice; H.E. Ahmad Mohammad Al Humairi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs; H.E.
