H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, has lauded the UAE prudent leadership’s vision and ongoing support for all the Emirates Identity Authority’s projects and initiatives aimed at supporting the decision-taking process and developing both the public and private sectors in the UAE.

In a press release marking the issuance of the updated version of the Emirates Identity Authority’s new strategy 2010-2013 booklet, Al Khouri valued the prudent leadership’s effort and contribution to supporting the Emirates Identity Authority’s budget, particularly under the rising operating cost of the projects, diversity of their logistic and technical requirements, their geographic spread across the UAE and their close connection with many of the projects that are being implemented by the local eGovernments.

The Emirates Identity Authority is making firm and plain steps towards achieving its objectives and fulfilling its mission, thanks to the great and limitless support of General His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed forces and Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, and the close follow-up by Lieutenant General His Highness Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, Al Khouri said.

He clarified that the Emirates Identity Authority registered more than half the UAE population in the ID card and population register over a record time. More than 3.5 million people registered over the past 18 months, he said, noting that the increasing number of registrants in all centers across the UAE is a clear indicator of the success of the new registration plan emanating from the Emirates Identity Authority’s strategy 2010-2013.

The Emirates Identity Authority is working in the framework of a clear strategic working system, which is compatible in terms of their major trends with the UAE Vision 2021, which is aimed at rendering the UAE among the most advanced countries of the world, he added.

Al Khouri expressed his confidence in the Emirates Identity Authority’s success in becoming the main reference for verifying personal identity, providing demographic data in the UAE, contributing to enhancing national and individual security, keeping a comprehensive and precise population register and providing an integrated set of innovated electronic services.

The Emirates Identity Authority’s many projects and initiatives will be to the benefit of the UAE due to their positive aspects and fruitful results, which are closely related to the eTransformation process taking place in the UAE, he said.

Al Khouri clarified that the results of this project will be judged in a precise and comprehensive manner after all the UAE population have been registered in the ID card and population register under the guidelines set by the Emirates Identity Authority’s new strategy 2010-2013 and the registration plan emanating from it.

He stressed the Emirates Identity Authority’s keenness on conducting a regular review of the themes of the strategy and discussing the stages of implementing these themes on a timely basis, taking into consideration the necessity to benefit from the worlds best practices in this connection and to read the results of the successful experiences of the identity system in many advanced countries, some of which took more than 10 years to achieve their objectives. It is also necessary to examine the major challenges and obstacles that faced these countries while implementing their own ID projects and to try to avoid them, he said.

Noting that the UAE’s experience in applying the ID card and population register system is one of the distinguished experiences at the regional and international levels, Al Khouri pointed out that many countries expressed interest in benefiting from it including India, which sent a high-level delegation to visit the Emirates Identity Authority with the aim of getting familiar with the used technologies and the new procedures for registering the population.
