The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, in cooperation with the Emirates Football Association, held the draw for the Authority Chairman’s Cup tournament for Futsal, with the participation of 12 teams representing several departments from the Authority in the UAE from September 20 to November 24.
This was announced during a press conference held by the Organizing Committee, at the headquarters of the Emirates Football Association in Dubai, in the presence of Brigadier Tariq Salem bin Rabia, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mohammed Hazam Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of the Emirates Football Association, and Lt. Colonel Jaber Jassim Al Muhairi, Director of the Tournament.
After the conference, the draw for the tournament took place to split up the participating teams into two groups.
In exclusive statements to the Emirates News Agency/WAM, Brigadier Tariq Salem bin Rabiah stressed that organizing this tournament embodies the societal role of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, and enhances the value of practicing sports for members of society as a whole.
He said: “This is the second edition of the tournament organized by the Authority, but what is new in this edition is the cooperation with the Emirates Football Association, in appreciation of the great role the federation plays in seeking to promote sports in UAE and football in particular, and to benefit from the great expertise that the federation enjoys.”
He added: “By organizing this tournament, we seek to strengthen the bonds between the various departments of the Authority, especially since all the participating teams represent many of these departments, and at the same time enhance the physical health of employees through the practice of futsal and highlight the positive competitive atmosphere among them.”
The head of the organizing committee clarified that the futsal championship is not the only sporting event that the Authority is keen to organize and participate in, but there are sports events in various games in which the Authority participates throughout the year, such as the government games and others.
For his part, Mohammed Hazam Al Dhaheri stressed that the UAE Football Association welcomes cooperation with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, and to host the tournament draw.
He said: “The UAE Football Association attaches great importance to this tournament in an effort to enhance its permanent cooperation with national institutions, especially since this cooperation is an essential part of the Federation’s strategy, and we are moving forward to build bridges of cooperation with our institutions that contribute significantly to supporting the football in all its varieties.
Bin Hazam expressed his confidence in the ability of this tournament to add many benefits to the game of futsal in the UAE, and make it a sporting activity that deserves attention and follow-up, and contributes to the expansion of organizing similar tournaments.
Lieutenant Colonel Jaber Jassim Al Muhairi explained that this edition is the second in the tournament, after its organization changed to be held in a group form, after it was previously held in each emirate of the country.
He said: “The preliminary round of a one-round league will be held between the teams of each group, with the first and second standings qualifying for the semi-finals.”
The draw ceremony resulted in dividing the 12 teams into two groups. The first group included teams of Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Human Resources, Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Ports Security, and Fujairah.
The opening match of the championship will bring together the teams of Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah in the first group competitions in the match scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, 20 September, while the preliminary round matches will be held in Dubai.
