As part of a global interest, which is the first of its kind for the Emirates Identity Authority, a number of global news agencies and newspapers and websites have devoted a considerable space for the news of the Emirates Identity Authority’s selection of Entrust, a global leader of PKI technology, as a strategic partner and major supplier of the many technological solutions offered by the Emirates Identity Authority.

H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, has affirmed that the prudent directives of the Higher Management and HH Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, have stressed the necessity for work in the Emirates Identity Authority, including all the strategic projects that it is carry out, to follow a new approach that will focus on tangible results, enabling them to be available for all concerned organizations in the UAE.

He clarified that by choosing one of the largest and most important global companies specializing in encryption technologies, the Emirates Identity Authority is very keen on embodying HH Sheikh Saif’s directives and exert all the efforts for the concerned entities in the UAE to substantially benefit from the results and outputs of the strategic projects that are being carried out by the Emirates Identity Authority.

The Emirates Identity Authority’s selection of Entrust is based on the company’s global status and leading position in the security of digital ID cards and ePassports based on the PKI technology, which has been tested and approved by the most advanced and developed countries of the world, he said.

Al Khouri emphasized that the Emirates Identity Authority’s selection of Entrust in its capacity as a major supplier of electronic ID solutions in the global market will allow the Emirates Identity Authority to build a robust basis for merging the ID program in all the services provided by the global eGovernments in the UAE.

He clarified that the advanced PKI technology used by the Emirates Identity Authority would enable it to benefit from the world’s most advanced programs related to this field through the use of the latest visual and biological security features and the merged infrastructure technology so that the ID cards will definitely verify the identity of individuals as per the highest international standards.

Al Khouri explained that the source and PKI security system manages the keys and digital certificates, which form the digital ID cards used for automatic and transparent control of security-related operations so that the system would allow the possibility to use digital signature, digital receipt, encryption and resource power management services through a vast group of applications and solutions.

He pointed out that by adopting the latest advanced technologies in its work, the Emirates Identity Authority is keen on playing a distinguished and effective role in the UAE sustainable development and economic growth, which would be achieved through the precise population register that supports the government’s strategic planning, through the ID card, which is the safest and most secure means for verifying the identity of individuals, and through PIN and smart card, which is linked with the individual’s biological features.

In press releases at Entrust’s headquarters in Dallas, USA, Mr. Bill Conner, Entrust President and CEO, said: “we are honored that we have been chosen to use our company’s vast experience in PKI technologies for supporting the coming stage of the significant strategic project, which is being carried out by the Emirates Identity Authority in the UAE.”

He added: “this selection is based on our strong presence and pioneering position in the Middle East and round the world as far as the provision of ID and ePassport programs are concerned. We are looking forward to providing all kinds of support to the Higher Management at the Emirates Identity Authority to contribute to the success of the strategic projects that are being carried out by the Emirates Identity Authority.”

It is noteworthy that Entrust has provided reliable consultative services to many countries seeking to carry out ePassport and digital ID card projects in a number of countries that issue a large number of passports – such as the US, UK, Taiwan, Singapore, Denmark, Ireland, Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia, New Zealand, Finland – accounting for 50 per cent of the passports of the first and second generations used worldwide.
