The Emirates Identity Authority has won the “Best National ID Program” Award pursuant to the decision of the international panel of judges emanating from the Digital ID World Middle East 2011 Conference and Exhibition, which concludes in Abu Dhabi today (Wednesday).

The panel of judges, consisting of a group of editors-in-chief of a number of world-reputed magazines and a number of international consultants, commended the procedure re-engineering project, which the Emirates Identity Authority carried out as part of its new registration plan. It also commended the digital ID project as well as the project for upgrading the population register and ID card systems and other projects which are currently being implemented by the Emirates Identity Authority.

Praising the positive results of the procedure re-engineering project as embodied in the relatively substantial rise in the daily registration rates in ID card and population register, the panel noted the new population registration plan, the mechanisms used for registering the population and the Emirates Identity Authority’s new strategy 2010-2013, which was described as a successful model that could be copied in many countries of the world.

The general criteria on which the evaluation process was based included a careful analysis of how far the Emirates Identity Authority’s new strategy contributed to developing the service system in the UAE to enable it to deal with the needs of UAE nationals and residents in terms of enhancing quality-related aspects as well as the type, efficiency and transparency of government services and the specifications and technical capabilities of the internal systems including the ensuring of security and confidentiality of information.

The criteria that the panel of judges adopted in its decision to grant the award to the Emirates Identity Authority included performance management, how effective the implementation of the set indicators was, and the future vision and plans aimed at developing the products and services provided to customers and offering a first class government service.

This award is granted to the governments which successfully launch advanced ID programs for the provision of better services to their citizens based on the decisions of the panel of judges whose conditions include the existence of a clear strategy at the entity nominated for the award in addition to a roadmap showing implementation routes, innovation and optimal and effective use of technology for achieving these objectives.

In granting the award, the panel of judges takes into consideration how effective these steps are, how possible the projects of the entities nominated for the award are implemented and how much their contribution to enhancing both the national security and individual security and upgrading digital economy in the UAE is.

The award distribution ceremony held on Tuesday was attended by H.E. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Chairman of Executive Committee and Emirates Identity Authority Board Member, H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, executive directors, a number of managers and a large number of participants in the Digital ID World Middle East 2011 Conference and Exhibition.
