The Emirates Identity Authority participated in the 7th meeting of the National Electoral Committee (NEC), which was held under the chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs, who is also NEC Chairman.

The meeting discussed the preparations of the Election Management Committee (EMC) for the voting process and a number of issues, the most prominent of which were the preparation of voting centers, e-voting system and the registration stage of candidates between August 14 and 17, 2011. The meeting was attended by the NEC and EMC members as well as chief-editors of local newspapers and a number of columnists.

The NEC was briefed on a report on the e-voting system and the already approved voting steps where the EMC selected the system to be applicable this year in line with the UAE requirements and the nature of election procedures. The system will allow the results to be announced for each emirate separately. it is a secure system that does not allow a voter to vote more than once.

The NEC was also briefed on a detailed report on preparation of election centers. AS many as 13 centers across the UAE were approved for this purpose. The distribution of voting centers took into consideration a number of major factors, these being the number of electoral colleges, geographic distribution and whether the center has an easy access and is clear to the public. The committee also discussed the details related to how to design centers and the action steps from the voter’s arrival in the center up to his/her departure.

The voting centers were distributed as follows: Abu Dhabi: 4 centers in Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Center, Al Ain, Western Region and a fourth center to be specified later; Dubai: 2 centers in Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre and Dubai World Trade Centre; Sharjah: 3 centers in Sharjah Expo, Meliha and Khor Fakkan, while one voting centre was spotted for each of Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain.
