Mr. Richard Kerby, United Nations Regional Advisor, has praised the Emirates Identity Authority’s website for its channels of communication with all sections of the society, particularly the media men, thereby contributing to supporting transparency and providing valuable information to them.

He stressed the necessity to disseminate some successful practices of the Emirates Identity Authority’s website to the government entities across the UAE such as the Emirates Identity Authority’s site on social networking websites and the viewing options for the visually impaired users.

Meanwhile, H.E. Salem Khamis Al Shaer, Director General, General Information Authority, valued the Emirates Identity Authority’s efforts and effective role in carrying out the projects that supported the UAE orientations for implementing eGovernment projects.

This was announced during a joint meeting between the Emirates Identity Authority’s delegation headed by H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, and a United Nations delegation headed by Mr. Richard Kerby, Regional Advisor to the United Nations Department for Economic and Social Affairs, which is on visit to the UAE to measure its eReadiness.

The meeting explored how developed the websites of a number of federal government entities, including the Emirates Identity Authority’s website, were and how far those websites were compatible with the latest standards observed by the United Nations when measuring eMaturity and transformation to eGovernment.

Al Khouri stressed the Emirates Identity Authority’s keenness and diligent endeavor to work with all the entities concerned in the UAE to boost the UAE position in global competitiveness reports.

He clarified that the Higher Management at the Emirates Identity Authority provided and was still providing all forms of support to its website as part of its keenness on meeting the requirements of the global evaluation teams and reflecting the actual status of eTransformation in the UAE, which matched the world’s most prestigious standards.

The Emirates Identity Authority carried out various projects to develop infrastructures for supporting eGovernance ventures and contributing to building digital societies, he said, referring to the studies and researches that the Emirates Identity Authority recently conducted in this connection.

The failure by the eGovernment projects to achieve their objectives at the international level is attributed in the first place to their concentration on applications before the establishment of the required infrastructure, Al Khouri said, noting that the major obstacle preventing organizations from converting to eGovernance systems lies in the absence of a mechanism to recognize digital IDs in online transactions.

The UAE grasped this need and placed it as a priority as shown in its implementation of the digital ID project, which the Emirates Identity Authority would start activating its applications in the first stage with Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC), he added, noting that this project would serve both the public and private sectors.

The meeting was attended from the Emirates Identity Authority by H.E. Nasser Al Mazrouei, ICT Executive Director, Mr. Yousef Al Kuwaiti, Applications Director, and the team supervising the Emirates Identity Authority’s website.
