The United Arab Emirates hosted the eleventh meeting of the International Standardization Organization held on the 22nd and 23rd of June of the current year in Al Raha Beach Hotel, Abu Dhabi
H.H Darwish Ahmad Al Zaraouni, General Manager of the Emirates Identity Authority stressed that hosting this important international meeting by the country demonstrates the special status and ability of the UAE to successfully host and organize international events.
He added that the fifth work team, emerged from the third workgroup of the International Standardization Organization which met in Abu Dhabi, is the team in charge of setting installation data & security frame specifications related to the application of RFID Technology in travel documents.
Al Zaraouni pointed out that this team emerged out as a result of the initiativews of the workgroup in relation to the modern technologies of the International Civil Aviation Organization to determine the use of bio standards and RFID technology, pointing out that the main goal of the meeting is to prepare a number of recommendations and specifications in these fields to be submitted to the modern technologies workgroup of the International Civil Aviation Organization in its meeting to be held during next September.
He also pointed out that the electronic part specifications of machine readable travel documents has been accurately defined since 2004, stressing the importance of evaluating these specifications from time to time to cope with this age specially in the field of security features code and public key utilities.
He said that the fifth workgroup has set an evaluating work plan to deal with the different phases that need to be modernized and they reached a joint view point regarding the content of the work plan during the last meeting hosted at Hague city, Netherlands on last March 2009.
The meeting discussed, over a period of two days, a number of issues including the issuance of data structures and management of certificate files and code algorithm system for active documentation, strong control of access, etc, in addition to the code algorithm system and the calculation of basic lengths in general.
It is noteworthy that fifth work team is one of five work teams affiliated to the third work group. It is a group working within the framework of the International Standardization Organization on the specifications related to the machine readable travel documents. As the third workgroup and its affiliated work team are closely related to the International Civil Aviation Organization, it also provides support to the technical consultant group affiliated to International Civil Aviation Organization on the machine readable travel documents as well as the technical expertise.
