The GCC Customs Union Authority holds its second meeting in Riyadh

The Board of Directors of the GCC Customs Union Authority held the second meeting of the Council on Wednesday (February 15, 2023) at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in the presence of their Excellencies, the heads and directors of general customs in the GCC countries, members of the Authority’s Board of Directors.
The delegation of the United Arab Emirates was headed during the meeting by His Excellency Ahmed Abdullah bin Lahej Al Falasi, Director General of Customs at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security and member of the Board of Directors of the GCC Customs Union Authority.
The meeting discussed the requirements for the work of the executive management of the Customs Union Authority in the founding phase, and the approval of the work regulations required for the executive management to carry out its duties, complete before the end of 2024. During the meeting, the Council also reviewed the reports of the working teams and technical committees concerned with studying issues related to joint customs work.
His Excellency Ahmed Abdullah bin Lahej Al Falasi said that the GCC Customs Union Authority plays an important role in building the process of cooperation and economic development in the GCC countries, by taking measures and implementing initiatives that contribute to facilitating trade with countries of the world and raising intra-trade rates between the countries of the Council, in addition to removing customs barriers facing trade and investment in the GCC states.
His Excellency pointed out that the Gulf Customs Union Authority succeeded in supporting the growth of the Gulf economies over the past decades through constructive and fruitful cooperation between the customs administrations in the GCC countries, which positively affected the standard of living and well-being of the Gulf citizens and the economic status of the GCC countries among the countries of the world.
