The Customs Union Authority meets in its Office at Expo 2020 Dubai

The Gulf Customs Union Authority, during its 27th extraordinary meeting held recently in its office at Expo 2020 Dubai, discussed the studies mandated by the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council the by the Supreme Council of the Council States and the relevant committees on the mechanism for developing the work of the Authority in line with the requirements of the current stage of cooperation between the Gulf countries, in addition to the future plan to develop the performance of the Gulf Customs Information Center, and to raise the level of performance in customs ports at the level of the GCC countries in order to meet the requirements of economic integration and finally reach the Gulf Customs Union.
The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Suhail Muhammad Abanmi, Governor of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in presence of His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, President of Customs in the Kingdom of Bahrain, His Excellency Colonel Saeed Khamis Al Ghaithy, Director General of Customs in the Sultanate of Oman, and His Excellency Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Jamal, President of the General Authority of Customs in the State Qatar, and from the UAE, His Excellency Ahmed Abdullah bin Lahej Al Falasi, Acting Director General of Customs at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, in addition to representatives of the General Secretariat of the GCC States and a number of officials in customs administrations in member states.
His Excellency Ahmed bin Lahej said that the meeting of the authority comes at an important stage in the history of the Gulf customs work, as Their Highnesses, the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, during the last summit stressed the importance of completing the requirements of the customs union and launching customs work to new horizons that meet the aspirations of the Gulf peoples, the private sector and the owners of companies in a safe and smooth transition between the GCC states without restrictions or obstacles.
His Excellency added that the heads of customs departments in the GCC states stressed during the meeting their keenness to take all measures that contribute to pushing the Gulf customs work process forward, and to develop work mechanisms to remove all obstacles and customs restrictions and enhance joint Gulf action.

About the Authority:
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security is the authority responsible for regulating the affairs of identity, citizenship, passports, entry and residence of foreigners in the country, enhancing the security of ports, borders and free zones, raising their efficiency and readiness, and organizing and managing customs work in the country in accordance with security standards and requirements.
The authority was established on August 25, 2021 by Federal Decree-Law No. (14) for the year 2021, issued by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of the UAE (may God protect him), to replace the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship and the Federal Authority for Customs, and the General Authority for the Security of Ports, Borders and Free Zones.
