Lieutenant General HH Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA), yesterday opened a new branch of the authority in Sharjah.
Up to 60,000 people have already registered with the new branch over the last 70 days, even before its official inauguration.
Sheikh Saif was accompanied by Major General Hamid Mohammad Hudaidi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, Major General Ahmad Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police and President of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Identity Authority and Dr Ali Mohammad Al Khouri, Director General of Emirates Identity Authority. He toured the center and got briefed on the procedures.
The new registration centre is located in the Al Rahmaniya area in a new two-storey building, located after Sharjah University City and built at a cost of approximately AED million.
The building is equipped with latest equipment to provide services with the highest level of professionalism.
The new registration centre is the largest one in Sharjah and has been designed to accommodate 26 registration queues, manned by 16 men and 10 women employees people a day.
However, at present, there are 11 men and 6 women employees working at the service counters.
In order to ensure best quality service to residents, the centre has been equipped to handle people with special needs and houses a mosque, a library and a coffee shop within its premises.
The centre is located near the intersection of bridge No 6 and is open from 7am-8pm on working days.
Dr Engineer Ali Mohammed Al Khori, Director General of EIDA lauded the inauguration of the centre, adding that the EIDA works within the framework of strategies of the UAE Vision 2021 which aims to strengthen the UAE unique position among the most advanced countries in the world, stressing that the Authority will continue to intensify its efforts to achieve the vision of the senior leadership, through the implementation of projects that will contribute to the development of public and private sectors and to support decision-making process.
He also expressed thanks of the Emirates Identity Authority for its strategic partners, pointing out the role and efforts of the Government of the Emirate of Sharjah represented by the municipality, which provided the land for the construction of the project, and other facilities that have contributed to the adequate execution of several EIDA projects at the level of the emirate within established time frames.
Dr Al Khouri pointed out: “Since the centre started its trial phase on September 27 last year, we have received more than 60,000 people.
“Within 70 working days, the average [daily] rate of registration is 877, while the highest enrolment at the centre one any one day was 1,350, which means one person was registered every 5 minutes.”
