The Emirates Identity Authority has underlined the necessity for UAE citizens to register their newly born children in the population register, enabling them to get electronic passports before ID cards are issued to them in line with the Ministry of Interior’s recent stipulation that an ID card is mandatory for getting the new ePassport for UAE nationals.

The Emirates Identity Authority clarified that the procedures for registering newly born citizen in the population register and ID card requires an original birth certificate to be obtained from the competent authorities and the newly born citizen to be added in the summary of civil status through the general departments of residency and foreigners affairs.

This is to be followed by a visit to an Emirates Identity Authority-affiliated registration center without a prior appointment to register the newly born citizen in the population register system and get an identity certificate before completing the procedures for getting an ePassport for the newly born citizen by visiting the service points of the general departments of residency and foreigners affairs and presenting the identity certificate.

The Emirates Identity Authority pointed out that when visiting the registration center, the parents of a newly born citizen are required to present their own ID cards in addition to the original birth certificate and original summary of civil status, noting that this transaction requires no fees to be paid.

The Emirates Identity Authority clarified that after completing the procedures for getting an ePassport for a newly born citizen, the parents would have to visit an authorized typing center for completing the ID card issuance procedures for the newly born citizen through the service of “renewal of non-available card”, noting that the issuance of the card does not require the newly born citizen to be present or the registration center to be visited.

For citizen below 15 years, the issuance of an ID card requires presenting the original (valid) passport, original summary of civil status and a photo with a white background.
