Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, may Allah protect him, inaugurated an array of services launched by Dubai Municipality during his opening of Gitex Technology Week 2011. The services included applying electronic signature to documents using the national ID card, the ID card sign-in and sign-out system, landlords’ ID card data reading system and many other innovated projects.

Dubai Municipality clarified that the launch of the service of electronic signature on documents using the national ID card comes as part of its endeavor to automate its full operations and achieve a paperless work environment. The launch of the electronic signature project using ID card is in line with the related international standards.

The municipality pointed out that the digital certificate available in the ID card of the signatory of a document is used as part of signing the document and as a secure way of identifying the signatory and protecting the document after being signed.

The municipality noted that the electronic signature was applied in many of its systems, where an official signature is needed to be available on documents, including the system for issuing maps and electronic messaging system. This would save a lot of effort and money involved in conventional signature where documents are printed and are subsequently scanned electronically, the municipality added.

The municipality announced the adoption of the ID card for its employees’ sign-in and sign-out system. The adoption comes as part of the municipality’s endeavor to activate its employees’ use of the ID card and is based on its keenness on the existence of one identification card for its employees. Dubai Municipality is the first government department to activate the national ID card of its employees.

The municipality pointed out that it started using the national ID card for updating the data of the landlords dealing with it by reading the data approved in the national ID card. This led the landlords’ transactions to be completed speedily and their database to be updated, the municipality said.
