ICA participated in the reception of the Emirati astronauts, Hazza Al Mansoori, who is the first Emirati astronaut and the first Arab to arrive at the International Space Station (ISS), along with his colleague Sultan Al Neyadi, upon their arrival from Russia at the Presidential Airport, after the success of Al Mansoori’s trip. This was to appreciate and take pride in UAE’s sons and daughters who take part in its progress and build its glories among nations.
Brigadier General Morshed Al Mazroei, Director of the General Directorate of Nationality in Abu Dhabi, Colonel Mohamed Al Hameli, Director of Airports and Sea Ports Department, Colonel Rashid Al Dhaheri, Director of Passports Department, Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Ahmed Al Dalal, Director of the Government Communication Department in the General Directorate of Foreigners’ Affairs and Ports, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Salem Al Nuaimi, Director of the Strategy Department, Lieutenant Colonel Gamal Al Zeeb, Deputy Director of Airports and Sea Ports Department, and Lieutenant Colonel Gaber Al Mohairi, Head of Public Relations Department participated in the reception.
ICA’s delegation expressed their pride in the success of Hazza’s mission to the ISS, as it exemplifies an Emirati story of achievement and success in exploring outer space. In addition, it is considered a source of inspiration and an incentive for the UAE’s youth to work hard to bring UAE among the top global leaders and to help in its progress, as well as to be able to actively and efficiently participate and engage in space science and knowledge.
It is reported that Al Mansoori spent eight days on the ISS, which was planned under UAE Astronaut Programme, which aims at training and preparing a team of Emirati astronauts and sending them to space to undertake various scientific missions. This programme is supervised by Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre. Al Mansoori took off on the 25September 2019 on board the Russian spacecraft “Soyuz MS-15” and returned on the 3 October, 2019 on board the Russian spacecraft “MS-12.”
