WAM / The General Secretariat of Ajman Executive Council announced that national ID cards will be required in all official government transactions in the emirate. The Council issued a circular requiring the use of national ID cards by all citizens and residents in the emiratewho wish tocompletegovernment transactions. The circular also asserted that the ID card will be one of the main documents to be used along with the passport and family book for citizens and for residents, they should present the ID card and the passport in which the residency visa shows. The circular prohibitedthe approval, employment or keeping of a resident as an employee, user, worker or student or in any other capacity unless they have an ID card. This condition shall be effective 1st December 2011.
This comes in the wake of the strategic plan of the United Arab Emirates to achieve strategic objectives for government entities and support mutual efforts among all ministries, federal institutions, and local governments to expand the fields of mutual cooperation which all pour towards the welfare of the nation.
On 17 October, Ajman Executive Council signed a partnership agreement with Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) to use ID cards as a proof of identity for employees in government and nongovernment departments and authorities in the emirate of Ajman as per the provisions of the Federal Law of 2006 pertaining to population register and identity card and decisions of the Cabinet issued with respect to identity card.
His Excellence Eng. SaeedSaif Al Matrooshi, Secretary General of Ajman Executive Council, asserted that the council seeks to put into action the visions of the leaders in adopting the national identity system and making it mandatory in all official transactions across the emirate.
He added that pursuant to directions from His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, and by His Highness Sheikh AmmarHumaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Head of Ajman Executive Council, to put into action the visions and strategies of the government in this regard, the Council will follow up on the extent of compliance of all government departments in the emirate with the circular and will seek to send out official memos to require the use of ID cards in any official transactions in the emirate.
He drew attention to that the agreement made between Ajman Executive Council and EIDA is an obligation that confirms this requirement and that the presence of ID card is mandatory in all circumstances and under any conditions. He urged individuals, institutions and entities to ensure the presence of ID cards before approving any transactions issued by the emirate.
