Emirates Post: New Delivery Platforms to Face Overcrowding and Rising Number of ID Cards

Sunday 15 January 2012

Emirates Post announced that it will allocate specific platforms to deliver ID cards to their holders from nationals and expatriates and will activate the “Mail P.O. Box” service to send ID cards to the nearest post office to the ID card holder in an attempt to face the increasing numbers of ID cards that should be delivered to the public and the overcrowding of customers witnessed by some post offices.

Ibrahim Bin Karam, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), Emirates Post Group Holding, declared to Al Ittihad Newspaper that the increase in the number of customers is due to the increase in number of ID cards arriving to the post offices daily. He asserted that Emirates Post is committed to deliver the ID cards and contact their holders within 48 hours as of date of their arrival from Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA).

Bin Karam added that many customers are late in going to the post offices to pick up their ID cards, which leads sometimes to the overcrowding of these offices. He called upon each ID card holder to go to their post office to pick up their card as soon as they receive an SMS indicating the arrival of their card.

He indicated that Emirates Post currently has more than 42000 ID cards that arrived over 90 days ago and their holders never showed up to pick them up. This entails returning these ID cards to EIDA. At the same time, the number of cards received by Emirates Post reached 320,000 ID cards ready to be picked up.

Bin Karam pointed out that over the last week, Emirates Post delivered 82% of the ID cards in its possession whereas statistics show that the total number of ID cards delivered by post offices to their holders reached nearly 1,850 Million ID cards.

He called upon customers to bring the “ID Card Arrival Notice” sent to them on the addresses they specified in order to pick up their cards. The notice contains “digital code” through which the ID card holder’s data may be obtained and registered directly into the post e-system without the need to re-register the information, which saves time for customers even during overcrowding.

Bin Karamalso indicated that Emirates Post seeks to activate the “Mail P.O. Box” service that may be used by customers issuing new ID cards or renewing their expired ones to enter the P.O.Box number of the area they reside, which can save them a trip to the main offices to avoid overcrowding.
