The Emirates Identity Authority has reviewed the European countries’ experience in interoperability project, which allows the automated systems in the European Union member states to interact, exchange data electronically and work jointly without the users of these systems having to exert extra effort to get the service from these systems.

This was announced during a meeting held recently with a European official delegation at the Emirates Identity Authority’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The meeting, which was chaired by H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, reviewed the rules and regulations issued recently by the European Union as regards electronic identity and electronic verification.

The meeting was organized with the aim of benefiting from this experience for carrying out similar projects that are currently being prepared at the UAE and GCC levels in the field of smart ID cards and applications. The Emirates Identity Authority is co-ordinating with the authorities concerned with GCC ID card projects to formulate a general framework and develop the concept of interoperability and joint work with these countries as regards the digital ID applications.

It is noteworthy that the Emirates Identity Authority launched the electronic linkage project to link the systems and databases of 6 entities (Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ministry of Justice and local entities) with the population register system with the aim of updating the person’s file simultaneously with maintain the accuracy of the data as part of a secure mechanism that takes into consideration the world’s protection and confidentiality criteria and ensures automatic and instant updating of changes in the civil incidents of the individuals registered in the population register.

The Emirates Identity Authority will later seek to expand the scope of the project after ensuring operability with the organizations concerned with the civil incidents of the individuals of the society, which include but are not limited to (birth, marriage, divorce, death, education, health register), in order for the project to cover the remaining UAE organizations concerned with dealing with the UAE individual’s file within a time plan prepared in advance.
