WAM: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Western Region, has stressed the importance of the cultural convoys, which come in response to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s call for boosting the national and societal solidarity in the UAE community. The cultural convoys also reflect Sheikh Khalifa’s integrated leading vision of sustainable development in the UAE, the most important of whose components are the development of the society, building man and ensuring social solidarity and integration in the UAE.

Followed up by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, the cultural convoys contribute to supporting the concept and content of the convoy initiative and streamlining the Ministry’s objectives aimed at enhancing communication among the different UAE government and private entities and institutions and consolidating the bonds of such co-operation, Sheikh Hamdan said. The cultural convoys also allow all intellectual sections and age categories the opportunity to benefit from the convoys in line with their desires, ambitions and objectives, he added.

In a statement at the conclusion of the cultural convoy activities in Al Mirfaa, Sheikh Hamdan noted that the cultural and heritage activities that accompanied the convoys contributed to consolidating the values of communal culture by providing enlightenment and communal development services of the Ministry and partners to the inhabitants of the areas visited by the cultural convoys.

Sheikh Hamdan praised the attention paid by many ministries, federal and local authorities and private establishments to participate in, support and sponsor the cultural convoys initiative based on their belief in the sublime objectives of this initiative and its role in helping the inhabitants of theses areas have an access to the integrated services following the success of the previous convoys in reaching their goals.

Thanking the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development for organizing this type of initiatives in the towns of the Western Region, Sheikh Hamdan pointed out that the cultural convoys, launched in the early 1980s, turned now into a significant cultural, social and heritage event, which is awaited by the inhabitants of remote areas after the previous convoys succeeded in throwing the light on the areas that they visited and in providing many cultural, societal, health and knowledge-related services to the inhabitants there.

It is worthwhile that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development is organizing the cultural convoys initiative for the second successive year after it made a dazzling success in 2010 during which it organized five cultural convoys hosting more than 71 activities in which many government and private entities participated.

The cultural convoy in Al Mirfaa, in which the Emirates Identity Authority participated, is the first convoy launched by the Ministry in 2011.
