In a bid to activate its strategy for increasing the capacity of the population register systems and upgrading their infrastructures, the Emirates Identity Authority has completed temporary switch to operating on the reserve infrastructure existing in the disaster prevention center.

By upgrading the infrastructure within the disaster prevention center, the Emirates Identity Authority aims at operating the population register systems at a capacity which is as high as double the current capacity of the Emirates ID’s main operations center. This will prepare for upgrading the infrastructure at the operations centre in order for its capacity to reach nearly four times the current capacity and its output to touch around 23,000 transactions per day, thanks to advanced and special technologies.

By virtue of the efficient participation of EIMAS, Emirates Identity Authority’s strategic partner, all the technical procedures required for the switch have been applied and the best practices in this connection have been adopted, considering that the switch is a delicate and sensitive process that requires study and careful planning and needs efforts to be co-ordinated among the concerned specialist working teams.

This achievement comes in implementation of a major theme of the ICT Department’s strategy and a result of prior planning and continuous co-ordination with strategic partners concerned with population register systems.

During his inspection of the progress of work and his ongoing presence in the main operations center during the switch to the Emirates Identity Authority’s disaster prevention center, H.E. Eng. Nasser Mohamed Al Mazrouei, ICT Executive Director, stressed the keenness of the Emirates Identity Authority’s Higher Management on completing this process with extreme precision in a bid to ensure the continuous non-stop work of the systems due to the fact that a number of government entities depend in their work on the continuous work of the population register systems.

Praising the diligent efforts exerted by the working team in the project which consisted of 20 specialists in the different technological fields, Al Mazrouei noted that the switch from the main operations center to the disaster prevention center required around 40 hours of continuous work.

He explained that the process comprised complete switch to network connection with all the Emirates Identity Authority-affiliated registration centers in addition to the suspension of the systems’ work in the operations center. The process also required the data of the disaster prevention center to be integrated and precise and the concerned government entities to switch to operating on the new infrastructure, he said.

It is worthwhile that the project for upgrading the infrastructures of the population register systems is accompanied by the project for upgrading the production capacity for printing ID cards. The necessary arrangements are currently being made in the main data center to install new printers of high specifications which are expected to be received in July this year.
