Emirates ID presents its strategic plan to board of directors of National Bureau of Statistics

The Board of Directors of the National Bureau of Statistics, chaired by H.E. Eng. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, has been briefed on the Emirates Identity Authority’s strategy 2010-2013.

The presentation made by H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, contained an explanation of the Emirates Identity Authority’s efforts for developing the UAE population register system and the stages of completion of this project’s infrastructure. It also contained an explanation of the project of electronic linkage with the UAE government entities, which is expected to be completed by mid-2012.

This was announced during the 4th meeting of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) for 2011, which was held in the NBS headquarters in Abu Dhabi yesterday. The meeting discussed a number of issues including a project for building statistical databases across the UAE, a project for developing the statistical frameworks and population register, and the statistical work in the federal entities.

During the meeting, it was resolved to submit a memorandum to the Cabinet requesting budget approval for carrying out a project to update statistical frameworks across the UAE.

A number of statistical indicators and their record sources were reviewed by identifying their concerned entities and the official correspondence made in this connection with the aim of familiarizing the board of directors with what had been achieved in this regard. These entities included Ministry of Interior, Emirates Identity Authority and the local statistical centers such as the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi and Dubai Statistics Center.

Al Mansouri, who chaired the meeting, underlined the importance for the strategic partners concerned with statistical work in the UAE to co-operate with the National Bureau of Statistics for achieving the Bureau’s strategic objectives as embodied in building databases in the different demographic, social and economic fields and supporting decision-makers by providing them with precise information.

He also stressed the importance of the role played by the strategic partners in ensuring the integration of the statistical process in the UAE, thereby contributing to improving the performance of the national economy and economic competitiveness, particularly under the global economic conditions and changes, which necessitate the existence of precise statistical information.

Al Mansouri noted the importance of the co-operation relations with the local and federal entities and the necessity for signing memoranda of understanding with them in line with the overall objective of statistical work as embodied in building precise statistical databases to support the decision-making process, drafting policies and achieving sustainable development in all sectors and fields.
