Monday 12 December 2011

The Emirates Identity Authority and a delegation from the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care, Special Needs & Minors Affairs have discussed the possibility of issuing ID cards for individuals with special needs, which differ from those currently being issued for all the UAE population.

The meeting, which was recently held at the Emirates Identity Authority’s headquarters, discussed the Emirates ID’s efforts for employing people with special needs, integrating them into the society and providing them with a convenient work environment. It also discussed the possibility of making a plan to train a number of Emirates Identity Authority-affiliated registration centers in the basics of the sign language for the deaf and dumb and the best way to deal with this category.

Attended from the Emirates Identity Authority by Abdul Aziz Al Maamari, Director of Public Relations and Marketing, and from Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care, Special Needs & Minors Affairs by Moza Al Qubaisi, a center director, and Ibrahim Hareb, a special needs specialist, the meeting also discussed means of enhancing mutual co-operation and exchanging field visits.

Al Qubaisi expressed the gratitude and appreciation of Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care, Special Needs & Minors Affairs to the Emirates Identity Authority for its ongoing support, which is beneficial to the UAE people with special needs. She also praised the Emirates Identity Authority’s Cabinet-approved initiative for exempting the people with special needs as well as those suffering from autism and those subject to the social security law from the ID card issuance fees, which took effect around 3 months ago.

At the end of the meeting, Al Maamari presented the visiting delegation with a gift – Braille versions of the Holy Quran – in the name of H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General.

The meeting was also attended from the Emirates Identity Authority by Ali Al Hammadi, Public Relations and Activities Co-ordinator, and Amani Al Hosani, Training Administrator at the HR Department.
