The organizing committee of the ID WORLD International Congress 2011 held in Milan, Italy under the support and patronage of the European Commission has granted H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, the award of the “Most Influential Figure in the Digital ID World over the Past 10 Years.”

The committee clarified that Al Khouri was honored for his prominent role in and effective contribution to ID system management, his efforts for enriching scientific and field research and his remarkable participation in many dedicated scientific conferences and forums worldwide.

Marking the occasion, Al Khouri extended the warmest thanks and appreciation to the UAE prudent leadership under President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may Allah protect him, to His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Deputy supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, and to His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority. He emphasized that this achievement would not have been accomplished without the limitless support that the directors and employees of the Emirates Identity Authority received from the Emirates ID Chairman and the diligent follow-up and prudent directives of the Emirates ID Deputy Chairman.

Al Khouri believed that winning the award of the “Most Influential Figure in the Digital ID World” is a victory to the UAE and the Emirates Identity Authority’s family. He emphasized that the real achievement that the Emirates Identity Authority’s family is looking forward to achieving lies in fulfilling the mission and the national strategic objectives for which the Emirates Identity Authority was established as embodied in creating and updating an advanced population register system for legally identifying the identity of all UAE nationals and residents by giving a personal number and a smart card associated with the individual’s biological characteristics in support for decision-making and scientific planning of comprehensive and sustainable development projects in the UAE.

In a statement issued yesterday (Wednesday) during the annual ceremony of the ID awards, which was held in Milan, Italy, the committee said: “The Emirates ID Director General was selected by the European Union and the organizing committee of the 10th ID WORLD International Congress for this international award because he deserves to be honored for his prominent scientific contributions and the many dedicated scientific researches and studies, which he conducted over the past decade and were published in the major world-reputed journals.”

The organizing committee noted Al Khouri’s distinguished administrative performance and advanced strategic mode of thinking as well as his success in leading the working team at the Emirates Identity Authority to achieve its strategic objectives as embodied in carrying out and developing both the population register and digital ID projects in the UAE.

According to the details of the award, Al Khouri succeeded in forming and leading a distinguished working team that supervised the building and developing of the Emirates Identity Authority’s strategy 2010-2013, which made a quantum leap in the Emirates ID’s process of development due to the fact that it was excellently made and contained a number of projects and initiatives that were concerned with developing governance and corporate excellence systems and creating an attractive work environment that motivated innovation, led to excellent results and upgraded the general performance of the Emirates Identity Authority.

The organizing committee also announced that it is looking forward to organizing a special ceremony to be held by the end of this year in a country to be named later on. During the ceremony, Al Khouri as well as two international figures would be granted the same award, each as per his field of specialization and scope of interests.

It is worthwhile that Al Khouri, who was assigned as Emirates ID Director General in 2009, is member of many authorities and societies inside and outside the UAE including board member of National Statistics Centre, member of the Ministry of Interior’s executive committee supervising the ePassport project in the UAE and UAE representative to the GCC steering committee for ID cards.
