H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, has affirmed that the hosting by the UAE of the meeting of the GCC Smart Card Steering Committee comes as part of the Higher Leadership’s ongoing keenness and directives that it is necessary to exert every effort possible to make a success of the work of the GCC joint committees.
During his inaugural speech to these meetings, which started this morning (Sunday) at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, Al Khouri added: “We are pinning great hopes on the results of this meeting to reflect positively on the interest of all GCC countries.”
Expressing his hope that the results of the meeting would contribute to fulfilling the common hopes and aspirations of the GCC countries, Al Khouri, who is the chairman of the meeting, stressed the necessity to enhance means of mutual co-operation in a bid to maintain the achievements of the GCC countries and carry on the process of building, growth and prosperity.
Al Khouri concluded by saying: “The representatives of the delegations participating in this new edition of the GCC meetings are gathering today to see the achievements that have been accomplished and discuss all the agenda issues and topics.” He wished success to this significant meeting by coming up with the best decisions and recommendations that would serve the interest of the GCC countries and peoples.
Meanwhile, Mr. Abdul Malik Saleh Al Sheikh, Director of Planning and Development Department, GCC General Secretariat, offered the most sincere thanks, appreciation and gratitude to HH Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, for the UAE kind hosting of this meeting and providing all forms of support to make it a success.
He added: “I am pleased to convey to you the most sincere regards and appreciation of H.E. Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani, GCC Secretary General, and H.E. Abdullah Al Shibli, Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs at the GCC General Secretariat, wishing this meeting all the success.”
He explained that this meeting includes many significant topics of concern to GCC citizens which are aimed at facilitating procedures for them in implementation of the directives of GCC leaders, may Allah protect them, to form this committee to facilitate transport procedures for the citizens and residents of GCC countries.
In the first session, the committee discussed the procedures taken by the member countries as regards a number of issues such as reading smart cards electronically in exits, transport area protection mechanism and applying the use of smart cards in electronic gates.
The committee also listened to the procedures taken by the concerned countries as regards the legislation related to the issuance of personal ID cards to the GCC citizens of all age categories.
The member countries in the meetings of this committee are represented by Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Mr. Mohamed Masoud Al Mazrouei, Mr. Yousef Al Bulooshi and Mr. Abdullah Askar from the UAE, Eng. Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Aseeri, Mr. Khalid Bin Hamad Al Seikhan, Mr. Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Rahman Al Asaker and Mr. Abdul Aziz Bin Ali Al Shreim from Saudi Arabia, Mr. Saleh Khamis Ghanem Al Kubaisi, Mr, Salah Salem Abdullah Al Ali and Mr. Mjalli Awadh Al Mjalli from Qatar, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Amer, Mrs. Elham Mohammed Saleh and Mr. Nazeeh Al Jodar from Bahrain, Mr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Jabri and Mr. Salem Bin Mohammed Al Rawas from Oman, Mr. Musaed Mahmoud Al Ass’ousi, Mr. Abdullatif Sare’a Al Sare’a, Mr. Mansour Ahmed Al Muthen, Mr. Yousef Mohammed Al Askar, Dr. Hamed Hammoud Al Khalidi and Mr. Mshari Abdul Hadi Al Metairi from Kuwait, in addition to the representatives of the GCC General Secretariat, these being Mr. Abdul Malik Saleh Al Sheikh, Mr. Jamal Mohammed Al Khamis and Mr. Fahed Al Dhaba’an.
