Emirates ID delegation participates in Conference on Cyber Crimes

A delegation from the Emirates Identity Authority participated in the 4th International Conference on Cyber Crimes, which was held at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi yesterday under the patronage of His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority.

The delegation consisted of a number of executive directors, departmental managers and directors of Emirates Identity Authority-affiliated registration centers. Its participation was aimed at getting familiarized with the legal procedures for detecting the crimes resulting from the use of modern technologies, exploring the experiences of advanced countries in this connection and getting to know how to detect and search for a cyber criminal and how to deal with digital evidence, these themes being linked with a number of strategic projects carried out by the Emirates Identity Authority such as the digital ID card and electronic certification center.

In his inaugural speech to the conference, H.E. Dr. Hadef Bin Jua’an Al Dhaheri, Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Institute of Training and Judicial Studies, said the security strategy in the UAE underlines the need to prevent cyber crimes, ensure the security, stability and public safety among the UAE nationals and residents and gain the experiences needed to confront this type of crimes as soon as they are committed, adding that the Ministry of Justice is reviewing the federal law no. 2 for 2006 with respect to preventing cyber crimes.

Meanwhile, Chancellor Dr. Mohammed Mahmoud Al Kamali, Director General of the Institute of Training and Judicial Studies, said the UAE occupies an advanced place among the leading countries of the region in terms of the widespread use of the Internet, adding that the cyber crimes against the Internet users are much higher than ordinary crimes. As much as 55 per cent of Internet users fell victims to cyber crimes compared with 18 per cent to ordinary crimes, he said.

The conference was organized by the Institute of Training and Judicial Studies in co-operation with Ministry of Interior, Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, Association of Software Producers and Computer Emergency Response Team.
