The Emirates Identity Authority (Emirates ID) has already delivered 1,500,000 identity cards to their owners during the past six months, out of a total of 1.78 million cards issued and handed over to delivery companies during the same period.
More than 280,000 cards issued during the past six months have yet to be delivered to their owners. Among them, 130,000 cards have been in the possession of delivery companies for over 60 days now as owners have not collected them despite notifying the owners more than once.
Emirates ID called upon all customers not to delay receiving their cards without proper reasons as it has been decided to destroy all cards that are not collected by owners within 30 days from the date of notification.
Emirates ID praised the efforts of delivery companies in delivering such large numbers of cards over the past six months. Emirates Post alone delivered more than 1,200,000 cards during the same period.
The announcement on the number of cards issued came during a recent meeting of the Higher Management of Emirates ID, chaired by His Excellency Dr Engineer Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Director General of the Authority. The meeting was also attended by chief executive officers and directors of the various departments within Emirates ID.
New delivery plan
The Higher Management also discussed the new plan implemented last week to deliver the ID cards to their owners. The new plan allows customers to indicate their preference on how to receive the card. Owners can choose to receive the card by mail in their personal or company post box or pick it from Emirates Post offices.
The Higher Management also decided to accept photographs of children under 15 years even if they had a white background instead of the background specified earlier, following public demand and suggestions from the authorised typing centres.
The Higher Management also decided to request all government authorities concerned in the UAE to accept the ID card along with the passport (residence) until the completion of the electronic linkage with the preventive medicine centres (PMCs) across the country, which is due to be completed by the end of 2011, since it is likely that the card is cancelled.
