The Executive Committee, chaired by H.E. Mohammed Ahmed Al Bawardi, member of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, approved the obligation to use ID cards in the emirate of Abu Dhabi in all public transactions with government agencies and institutions pursuant to the memorandum submitted by Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC).
This decision made during the meeting of the committee in Abu Dhabi this morning, came 10 days after the end of the deadline for registration for Abu Dhabi residents aged over 15. The registration deadline for children below 15 is by early October 2012.
In mid May 2011, Emirate of Abu Dhabi Executive Council stressed the need and importance of registration in the ID card and population register for all nationals working in government and semi-government agencies in Abu Dhabi according to Article 10 of the Federal Law No. 9 of 2006 relating to the population register and ID card system which states, “It is prohibited to accept, hire or keep someone as an employee, user, worker or student or in any other capacity unless they have an ID card”.
In circular No. 10 of 2011 relating to the obligation to use the ID card for citizens working in the emirate, and due to its keenness to maintain public interest and support initiatives of the UAE government, the Executive Committee called upon those who have not registered yet in the ID card and population register to go register immediately.
Last October, Abu Dhabi Executive Committee listened to a presentation given by Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Director General of Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA), entitled: “Supporting and Developing the Public Sector and Progress in the State,” where he discussed EIDA’s new 2010-2013 strategy and indicated its projects and initiatives currently under execution.
The presentation set out EIDA’s vision, mission and the goals it seeks to achieve, which are registering all population, developing an infrastructure, activating the ID card applications and updating the institutional systems.
EIDA’s Director General also discussed EIDA’s short-term, medium-term and long-term operational model, through which it aims to register the population, provide quality identification and verification services and continue the transformation process in its key services.
