Abdul Rahim Al Hashemi, Head of Personal Status Services at Dubai Courts asserted that the use of ID cards to register marriage contracts or for any procedure related to personal statushas saved 75% of transaction performance time.
In a statement to Al Bayan Newspaper, Al Hashemi said: “If the spouses and the witnesses hold ID cards, the marriage contract registration shall take no more than 5 minutes, whereas in the past, this transaction used to take 20 minutes at least.”
Al Hashemi pointed out that information about the person holding the ID card may be obtained within 10 seconds through the ID card readers which are available at each employee in the Personal Status Services. He added that the identity of the person may be verified by placing his finger on the fingerprint reader.
He indicated that traditionally, the personal information of the spouses and witnesses and guardian of the bride and conditions and terms of the marriage and dowry needed to be entered. This process required a longer time and larger number of employees, but the transaction of marriage contract registration through the ID card saved us time and personnel.
Al Hashemi indicated that the Personal Status Court at Dubai Courts is among the first courts to apply this service with regard to the national ID card.
