UAE Central Bank confirmed that banks and finance companies operating in the state can only use the ID card issued by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, as a formal document to open the bank accounts and banking transactions for individuals with no need for the passport.
In an article published in Al Ittihad Newspaper in its issue today, UAE Central Bank invited the banks to continue use of passports in opening accounts and complete transactions for the individual customers, who are required by law to issue an ID card
