Abdullah Bin Fadhel, First Registration Administrator at Umm Al Quwain Registration Center, participated in the First GCC Youth Media Forum, which was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, on October 4. The forum saw the participation of around 100 young GCC media personalities.

During the third workshop of the forum which was titled “Values in Mass Media and the Challenges facing the youth in the media field”, Bin Fadhel stressed the importance for the GCC media to maintain the values and morals that reflect the culture of the citizens of the region and to be keen at the same time on keeping pace with the accelerating developments taking place in the media sector worldwide in line with the young generation’s aspirations. He said he believed that the traditional media was able to maintain its position in spite of the massive and rapid dissemination  of digital media.

The 3-day forum held in Dubai was aimed at conveying a message to the GCC youth through the generation of young media men that it is necessary to be influenced by and interact positively with the mass media in view of their effective role in shaping the orientations of the youth. The forum called on the traditional mass media to keep pace with the aspirations, orientations and modes of thinking of the young generation, which started to look at the social networking sites as an outlet for it and its thoughts.

It is worthwhile that the forum, which is held for the first time, is paid due attention by the GCC countries and is held as a result of the decisions taken in the meeting of the GCC Ministers of Youth, which was held recently in Abu Dhabi. The recommendations made during the meeting will be submitted to the next meeting of the Ministers of Youth which is hosted alternately by the GCC countries on an annual basis.
