H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, stated that 2 per cent of population register and ID card registration applications submitted to the Emirates Identity Authority’s registration centers across the UAE are rejected daily after being verified. These applications are returned to the typing centers due to errors in the given data or the incompatibility of the photos and supporting papers with the approved technical criteria, he added.

In statements to the Emarat Al Youm newspaper, Al Khouri pointed out that customers’ complaints about their failure to receive their ID cards for months were not in place. It was found that SMS messages were sent to their mobile phones as given in their registration forms requesting them to check with their typing centers , he added, noting that the applicants in question did not comply with these messages, causing a delay in completing their transactions.

Al Khouri explained some of the errors that would cause a transaction to be rejected and the receipt of the ID card to be delayed. These errors included the low quality of the attached photos and their incompatibility with the set criteria and specifications; the difference of the applicant’s name from the name given in his/her passport; unclear residence data; and wrong telephone or post office box number.

He pointed out that the Emirates Identity Authority provided several electronic mechanisms for applicants to inquire about the status of their applications. These included the Emirates Identity Authority’s contact center and website in addition to other options to be introduced shortly including a new contact center to be activated in March which contains high quality technologies for dealing with all complaints and inquiries related to the ID card registration system.

Al Khouri underlined the importance for an applicant to check the data of his/her ID registration form before leaving the typing center to ensure they are correct, particularly with respect to his/her telephone number, post office box number and personal data. It is also necessary for an applicant to track the status of his/her application either via the Emirates Identity Authority’s website or by calling the Emirates Identity Authority’s contact center within 30 days from the date of completion of registration procedures as his/her telephone number might have been inserted wrongly in his/her registration form or the transaction might have been possibly rejected for errors in the photos and attached documents, he added.

Al Khouri unveiled that the Emirates Identity Authority is in the process of providing all applicants across the UAE with the service of electronically filling out registration forms via its website in this month after the service had been launched on a test basis. He explained that the service would save the applicants’ time and effort for fast completion of their transactions and would also greatly contribute to minimizing the common errors in the data of the form and the quality of the inputted photos and documents, which lay mainly behind the rejection of transactions.

Al Khouri clarified that there are two ways for delivering ID cards to their owners following the completion of registration procedures. The first is through the post office box number given by the customer when filling out the registration form at the typing center and the second is through an Emirates Post center across the UAE which the customer selects when filling out the registration form, he added.

He affirmed that the Emirates Identity Authority is consolidating its efforts aimed at developing its service system and upgrading its services in a bid to provide the best service possible to customers and applicants in the easiest and most convenient way.

Al Khouri pointed out that the Emirates Identity Authority is currently printing around 30,000 ID cards daily after the operations center for printing cards had shifted from the old place in Abu Dhabi to the Icad area.

Meanwhile, over 526,000 ID card registration forms were filled out in the typing centers across the UAE and the Emirates Identity Authority’s website in December. This compared to 220,000 forms which were filled out in November and coincided with the printing of over 350,000 new and renewed ID cards in December.

The average number of forms that were filled out through the Emirates Identity Authority-authorized typing centers across the UAE touched around 17,000 forms per day in December, the Emirates Identity Authority said.

The Emirates Identity Authority pointed out that the number of ID card registration forms that were filled out by UAE nationals through its website touched 155 in the first week the service was launched in early January.

The Emirates Identity Authority said it is determined to provide residents with the opportunity of filling out registration forms on its website in February following the successful test operation of the forms dedicated for UAE nationals in the past days.
