Sharjah Customs was established in 1976 by virtue of a decree, known as “Customs Decree”, issued by HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Sharjah. Since inception, the customs department worked to ensure easy and smooth movement of goods and passengers through its air, sea and land ports. Establishing its position in the Emirate of Sharjah, the customs department opened about 10 centers to provide services via the best specialized human resources. The department also developed its services to cope with the growth of the trade exchange in the Emirate of Sharjah, introducing e-services that speed up the completion of transactions in such attractive way for investors that can reduce smuggling.

Sharjah Customs plays a vital role in contributing to the national economy, attracting investors, protecting the local production and combat smuggling through land, sea and air ports.
The customs sector achieved a great development and made a great qualitative leap in variant activities with ambitious plans and programs set by the Department raising the level of the customs service to the best levels.
Sharjah customs centers provide best services for importers, exporters and passengers, through its highly-efficient experts and the state of the art technologies in transaction processes, customs clearance and goods scanning via sea, land and air ports of the Emirate.
Sharjah Customs works to protect the society of violations of smuggling prohibited materials, such as narcotic drugs, and protect citizens by detection of smuggled counterfeits or harmful items. Sharjah Customs cooperates with many related governmental departments such as medical departments, veterinary quarantines, the police, coastal guards, the media, etc.
Sharjah Customs coordinates with all customs departments in the UAE through continuous communication with the Federal Customs Authority (FCA).
Since inception, Sharjah Customs has exerted continuous efforts to develop its facilities for smoother and easier movement of goods and passengers through the borders and at the same time is highly concerned with applying the customs law and the legislation related to the cooperation with the relevant governmental departments.
