Tuesday 20 March 2012

His Highness Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, has instructed the interim committee on textbooks to complete a project for developing textbook covers, which is aimed at implanting the values of affiliation, loyalty, public safety and volunteering in the minds of students, and apply it to the advanced academic stages.

Previously, Sheikh Hazza issued a decision to form an interim committee on textbooks to develop the covers of textbooks based on their importance in conveying messages to all students, irrespective of their age categories and school grades, for achieving such sought-after objectives as implanting themes of affiliation, loyalty, public safety and volunteering in students’ minds. The committee is chaired by the Supreme National Security Council and includes Ministry of Education, National Emergency Crisis & Disasters Management Authority, Ministry of Interior, Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research and Ministry of Health as members.

The interim committee on textbooks affirmed that a slogan titled “National Identity Promotion Program” was approved for the committee and that the first phase of the project was completed. The committee pointed out that the enrichment activities and drawings related to the themes of loyalty and affiliation culture, public safety culture and volunteering culture were incorporated in the textbooks for the first stage from grade 1 to grade 5 and the second stage, i.e. grade 6.

A survey was also conducted to measure the reactions of parents and teachers to the success of the project under the supervision of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research and Ministry of Education. The results showed that the parents and teachers had positive reactions to the project.

The committee clarified that work was currently underway to prepare the enrichment activities and drawings related to the three themes in textbooks for the second stage, i.e. grade 7 to grade 9, and in future for secondary education, i.e. grade 10 to grade 12.
