Timestamp Service

Time stamping is used to specify a time when the digital signature is made. This is needed to properly validate the signature.

If a signature timestamp is present, then the Validation Gateway which validates the signature will check whether the certificates involved with the signature validation were valid at the moment of signing.

When a signature is performed the Validation Gateway will send a request to the Time Stamp server to put a time stamp together with the signature.

This can at a later point of time be used to prove that a document was signed at a certain time.

Step 1

Validation Gateway Receives Request to Use Certificate

Step 2

Validation Gateway Sends OCSP Request to OCSP Responder

Step 3

OCSP Responder Checks Certificate Status

Step 4

The Result Is Returned To The Validation Gateway
