OCSP

To establish the validity of the certificate, i.e. if the certificate has been revoked or not, the VG connect over OCSP to online check the status of the relevant certificate. OCSP, Online Certificate Status Protocol, is a standard protocol used to make an online check of the status certificate at the time it’s used.

An OCPS request, i.e. question from the application/user, is sent to a separate OCSP responder who validates the status of the certificate and responds with the status if it’s valid or not.

The information on certificate status is delivered by the CA to the OCSP responder.

Whenever the user is making use of its certificate over the Validation Gateway the Validation Gateway will make an OCSP request to validate the certificate at that specific point of time.

Step 1

Validation Gateway Receives Request to Use Certificate

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

The Result Is Returned To The Validation Gateway
