UAE is about to complete one of the region’s hugest technological projects: Emirates ID Director General

H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, has affirmed that the UAE is about to complete the population register and ID card project, which is one of the region’s hugest modern technological projects. He unveiled that over 6.2 million UAE nationals and residents all over the UAE were registered in the population register and ID card system since the inception of the Emirates Identity Authority up to the middle of March.

The Emirates Identity Authority is determined to complete registration of all UAE population as part of its strategic plan 2010-2013 based on the UAE leadership’s limitless support of this national strategic project and its keenness on optimizing the advanced technologies for upgrading performance and electronic government work, Al Khouri said.

Al Khouri added that the Emirates Identity Authority put a project for strengthening the infrastructure of eGovernment on top of its priorities as registration of the UAE population is about to be completed. The move is based on the Emirates Identity Authority’s mission and in line with the federal eGovernment’s plan, which was recently endorsed by the esteemed Cabinet till 2014 and was aimed at raising the level of eTransformation in service sectors, setting up an advanced electronic infrastructure and providing a convenient legislative, legal and organizational structure for the provision of advanced online services, he said.

These statements were made by Al Khouri in reply to the journalists’ questions on the sidelines of the ID WORLD Abu Dhabi 2012, which kicked off today Sunday at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research in Abu Dhabi. The summit was held under the patronage of His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, and endorsed by the European Commission.

Al Khouri expressed heartfelt thanks and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, for his kind patronage of this leading national authority as embodied in his prudent directives and ongoing support for its process of development.

He also expressed his deepest thanks and appreciation to His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, for his kind sponsorship of the ID WORLD Abu Dhabi 2012, affirming that this sublime sponsorship reflected the UAE supreme leadership’s keenness on supporting and empowering knowledge-based communities through sponsoring such global forums.

Al Khouri praised the role of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research in supporting this year’s 5th edition of the summit, which is reviewing more than 60 dedicated working papers and seeing the participation and attendance of representatives of government entities as well as experts and staff involved in the manufacture of smart ID cards and digital ID identification systems  in addition to the participation of more than 20 world-class companies operating in this field in the exhibition held on the sidelines of the summit.

The summit features three major forums: The Citizen ID Forum, the Transportation Security Forum and the Asset Tracking Forum. It will also address several topics related to the future of digital ID, wireless technology, healthcare technologies as well as PC and smart mobile applications.
