WAM – The National Election Commission has held its first meeting at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi under the chairmanship of Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Federal National Council (FNC).
The current Commission saw an increase in the number of its members as a larger section of representatives of influential institutions and entities concerned with regulating the electoral process joined the Commission in addition to three public figures, reflecting the keenness of the Commission on benefiting from its experience of 2009 for regulating the next FNC elections.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Commission listened to an outline by the chairman of the Commission on the general conception of the electoral process and the positive experience of the FNC elections for 2006.
The Commission reviewed the Decree no. 2 for 2011 issued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may Allah protect him, amending certain provisions of the UAE President’s decree no. 3 for 2006 with respect to the method of selecting the representatives of the emirates in the FNC. The Commission also reviewed the UAE Supreme Council’s decision no. 1 for 2011, amending some provisions of the UAE Supreme Council’s decision no. 4 for 2006 with respect to the method of selecting the representatives of the emirates in the FNC.

Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, H.E. Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, and H.E. Dr. Saeed Mohammed Al Ghafli, Assistant Undersecretary for Federal National Council Affairs at Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs and Commission Administrator.
