The Emirates Identity Authority has reiterated its full support for the people’s and media awareness campaign titled “I Undertake”, which was launched by the Emarat Al Youm newspaper from today with the aim of urging people to stop using mobile phones in writing SMS while driving their cars and also warning them of the hazards involved in doing so.

H.E. Dr. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, announced the Emirates Identity Authority’s participation in the campaign by launching a number of awareness initiatives targeting its employees and customers in all its departments and centers across the UAE.

Al Khouri lauded the Ministry of Interior’s ongoing efforts for putting an end to the use of mobile phones while driving so as to maintain the safety of drivers and road users.

He also hailed the newspaper’s efforts for launching constructive awareness and social campaigns and also its prominent media role.

Al Khouri said: “The Emirates Identity Authority’s participation in the campaign is not only a corporate and social obligation but also a moral and humanitarian duty that the Emirates Identity Authority and all public and private sector organizations should abide by, thus supporting the Ministry of Interior’s endeavors and contributing to combining efforts for putting an end to accidents on the UAE roads as a result of excessive speed, the use of mobile phones while driving or other reasons that lead to unfortunate deaths, particularly on the part of young people, who are most obsessed with this idea.”

Al Khouri clarified that the Emirates Identity Authority would start from today Monday holding guidance and awareness seminars for its employees and circulating press releases and analyses related to the campaign via the internal email of its employees and the SMS system used for internal communication among its departments and centers.

He also announced that the Emirates Identity Authority intends to adopt the campaign’s slogan on its website, insert the “I Undertake” slogan in its outgoing letters and correspondence and publish banners carrying the campaign’s slogan in its affiliated registration centers across the UAE within the few coming days.

Al Khouri pointed out that the Emirates Identity Authority started urging its employees to avoid using mobile phones while driving in a bid to maintain their safety and that of road users. The Emirates Identity Authority did so by means of a circular to its employees titled “Do not use mobile phones while driving… your life means a lot to us.”

He noted that the Emirates Identity Authority called on its employees to participate in a survey related to the campaign launched by the Emarat Al Youm newspaper several days ago.

The Emirates Identity Authority also called on its employee to alert their families, relatives and friends to the hazards of using mobile phones while driving, he added, expressing the Emirates Identity Authority’s support of the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, Emarat Al Youm newspaper and the rest of entities participating in the campaign as well as its advocacy of the calls urging strict measures to be imposed on mobile phone users while driving with the aim of maintaining the safety of road users.
