Emirates ID and Ministry of Education discuss adding ID card to school curricula

The Emirates Identity Authority and Ministry of Education have discussed joint co-operation opportunities to approve a proposal to teach the concept of the ID card in the school curricula and educational activities as part of the Emirates Identity Authority’s efforts aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of the population register and ID card system.

This was announced during a meeting held recently at the ministry’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi and attended by H.E. Meihad Al Suwaidi, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Education, and H.E. Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of Population Register at the Emirates Identity Authority.

The Emirates Identity Authority clarified that this step would contribute to establishing a robust cultural structure among the youths and students in the UAE and is a method that would enhance the national and individual security aspects among the different categories of the society in line with the objectives of the Emirates Identity Authority’s strategy 2010-2013.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education emphasized that it is in the process of studying and reviewing the Emirates Identity Authority’s initiative to be familiarized with the aspects and frameworks to be adopted in school curricula. The ministry pointed out that it would take into consideration applying the initiative to the secondary stage in view of the nature of the subject that would be discussed and the need to ensure full assimilation of the ID concept.

The meeting was attended from the Ministry of Education by Sheikha Khulood Saqr Al Qasimi, Director of Curriculum Department at the Ministry of Education, and from the Emirates Identity Authority by Mr. Abdullah Askar, ID Card and Population Register Advisor, Miss Shamsa Al Zu’abi, Creativity and Development Director, and Mr. Elias Al Obari, Verification Administrator
