Akhbar Al Saah stressed the UAE’s keenness on developing smart ID cards and digital identity verification as they are linked to national security by providing an advanced information security infrastructure.
Akhbar Al Saah issued today under the title “Abu Dhabi Summit and the Renewed Security Challenges,” stated that the ID World Abu Dhabi 2012 Summit, which was held for two days, and concluded yesterday in Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Hall at the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority, holds immense significance. The event not only brought together world’s leading companies and experts on smart ID cards and digital identification systems, but also addressed a vital issue that closely linked to national security in the UAE and all over the world. With growing cases of identity fraud, it has become imperative and topmost priority to focus on such crimes and search for means to counter them.
The publication issued by the ECSSR added that HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed in his opening speech the keenness of the UAE’s leadership to develop integrated technology systems as part of an advanced and secure identity verification infrastructure in this rapidly changing world by using the latest technologies in this field.
It indicated that the efforts of the state in this field reflect awareness of the importance of this issue and addressing the relevant challenges, particularly in light of the UAE’s expansion in applying e-Government systems and its increasing reliance on the ID cards in conducting transactions in the different institutions throughout the state. This calls for emphasis on information security by using the best technological methods and modern systems and plugging the gaps that may allow fraud or manipulation of the ID card. The publication pointed out that the UAE is about to complete the population register and ID card project, which is considered one of the largest technological and modern projects across the region stressing its keenness to provide an advanced information security infrastructure to complete this vital project either by acquiring the latest identity verification technologies or by taking advantage of leading international expertise in this field.
